Radio Birdmen
Radio Birdmen
The in sound from way out - plenty of new releases, a crate load of vinyl and everything in between.
After presenting upwards of a decade at 3BBB Ballarat community radio, Lex moved to Geelong and started the drive program 'On My Block', which later morphed into 'Mr Malcontent'. After 12 years solo, he joined forces with Steve 'Buddha' McIntyre to present late-night show 'Radio Birdmen', the title a witty pun on the seminal Australian punk band Radio Birdman. Moving up in the corporate and dad-rock world, Buddha recently parted ways with the show. Lex gallantly forged onward and upward towards musical nirvana. He plans on reaching it sometime around 2011. Helping him along the way is resident musical prophet (or professor, take your pick), Lawson 'The Prof' Fletcher. Since starting in radio, the focus of Lex's programs have always been the music, and more often than not the sort of leftfield work that seldom receives airplay. Genres as diverse as dub, punk, alt.country, electro, rock, indie and garage set the scene, whilst favourites like Eddy Current Suppression Ring, Goldfrapp and Neil Young rub up against a swag of new releases every week. Radio Birdmen's eternal dictum: 'A whole lot less chatter and whole lot more platter'. Come for the music, stay for the music.
